Conditional Use Permits

Land uses in Craig are dependent on the property zoning.  Land uses generally are categorized as permitted, conditional, or prohibited.  Permitted uses in a zone are allowed without additional review or permitting (i.e. retail sales on property that is zoned commercial).  Uses specifically prohibited, or not listed as permitted or conditional uses are not allowed on property while the current zoning applies (i.e. industrial uses that cause disturbances in residential zones).  Conditional uses are uses that are generally allowed but require some additional review and public notice to ensure that the use is compatible with the specific property.  Permitted, conditional, and prohibited uses are shown for each zone in Craig Municipal Code 18.05.

To apply for a conditional use you must complete the Conditional Use Permit (CUP) Application and submit it, along with the $30.00 application fee, to the Planning and Zoning department at least 15 days before a regular scheduled Planning Commission meeting.  The planning department will provide public notice to all property owners within 300' of the subject property to solicit any comments and notify them of the public hearing.  Conditional Use Permit hearings are held by the Craig Planning Commission.  The commission will take public comment (both written and verbal) and will consider the application.  The commission may approve the permit, approve the permit with conditions, or disapprove the permit based on the public hearing and discussion.

If you have any questions about conditional use permits, zoning, land uses, or the application process contact the Craig City Planner at 907-826-3275.
